Treating Hyperpigmentation at Viso Medi Spa

Treating Hyperpigmentation

Hyperpigmentation, sun spots, pigment, whatever you want to call it – when it comes time to conquering these dark spots, there are certain things you’ll want to take into serious consideration. This article aims to give you a better understanding of how to treat your hyperpigmentation so you can gain confidence through understanding the nature of this skin condition.

The skin care professionals at Viso Medi Spa take all skin conditions seriously. We believe that knowledge is power, and we aim to ensure that everyone who visits Viso Medi Spa feels empowered and confident in their skin care options.

Unfortunately, receiving just one treatment at a time will not be effective in treating hyperpigmentation or sun spots. Hyperpigmentation occurs deep within the cells of your skin and therefore a series of combined strategies over a period of time is key to realizing a sustained difference. Think of it like a puzzle and each step is a piece of that puzzle.

When working to eliminate your hyperpigmentation and sun spots, it is very important to work with one skin care professional and to follow the entire program that is set out for you. When you move from one skin care professional to another, there is no way to monitor your progress and you will spend unnecessary money on products and treatments because we do not know your history.

The following is Viso Medi Spa’s program for best results in the treatment of hyperpigmentation and sun spots. Each step is an important piece of the puzzle when battling hyperpigmentation and sun spots.

– Step 1
Begin with a chemical peel or microdermabrasion. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion are a great way to begin the treatment of sun spots because it will prepare your skin by eliminating dead skin cells and darker surface pigment. Viso has a variety of peels and your skin care technician will recommend a specific course of therapies custom tailored best to your skin and situation.

– Step 2
Add a series of light-based skin rejuvenation treatments. The Naturalight IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) System is the latest technology available on the market, offering efficient and effective treatments for the widest range of skin types – including skin types 5/6.

– Step 3
Alternate the series of treatments set out for you by your skin care professional at Viso Medi Spa bi-weekly. This most often means alternating between a chemical peel or microdermabrasion and Naturalight IPL skin rejuvenation sessions

This will help us to reach the affected areas in in a few different ways:

  • Chemical peels and microdermabrasion help to shed the outer layer of skin, aiding in the sloughing of the pigmentation.
  • The Naturalight IPL System will then reach the pigment deeper in the skin. The light also stimulates the skin’s natural healing response, which aids in breaking up the pigment.

– Step 4
Topical products. During this process, it is very important to use a lightening product – such as a 4% hydroquinone, which is a concentration that requires a prescription (you can ask your doctor for this). This product will help keep the sun spots in a dormant stage. Damaged cells have memory, so even after you receive a series of treatments, these spots could potentially return if you are not using a product to slow the re-development of melanin concentrations.

It’s strongly recommended that you also use 20% vitamin C products every day. If you treat spots solely with hydroquinone, the melanin may become accustomed to the treatment.

– Step 5
After your series of treatments are complete, establish a maintenance schedule! When treating irregular pigmentation, do chemical peel or microdermabrasion maintenance treatments each month. Also, 2 Naturalight IPL treatments per year will help to keep the skin bright and free of those pesky sun spots and hyperpigmentation.

– Step 6
A spa-grade sunscreen is very important in the treatment and prevention of sun spots and other sun damage, so make sure you have a good sunscreen for both your face and  your body.
